Are we witnessing the demise of womanhood tailored into republican trad silhouettes, where mirroring men is now a woman's job. Thoughts of a Louver?
Louvers, I may be treading a line with this one, but I’m all for reflection and clarity. The lines between masculinity and femininity have grown as vague as a morning London fog. Women are sporting power suits, men have been taking on skirts, people are upset about a woman only gym and the concept of gendered apparel seems as outdated as dial-up internet. But behind this movement or societal ambivalence lies an uncomfortable question: Are traditional notions of womanhood being sewn out of existence?
Just to preface, this is in no way an advocacy for the Nara Smith’s and the farm ballerina’s, you can watch that episode on The Handmaid’s Tale. So, Yves Saint Laurent, always the rebel, dropped the "Le Smoking" tuxedo suit for women back in 1966. He was really pushing against what society expected and giving women a chance to break free with their style. This bold move totally changed the game for women's fashion and got everyone talking about gender and power. Now, if you look around, the pantsuit is everywhere in women's closets, representing strength and independence. And we #LOUVEIT.
